Abstract: The goal of this work is to develop a formal logical foundation of the representation and the retrieval of cases in case-based reasoning. An adequate basis therefor provides the default logic with priorities. We present transformations which construct defaults from the memory of cases such that the retrieval of knowledge in case-based reasoning correspond roughly to the preferred subtheory obtained by the defaults.
