In this work, we deal with an inverse 1D heat transfer problem in determining the surface enthalpy dependent heat fluxes from internal enthalpy measurements. The mathematical model, a nonlinear initial boundary value problem motivated in the ACC cooling process in the production of TMCP steel, describes the evolution of the spatially and temporally dependent enthalpy. Since a representation of the parameter-to-solution operator can only be given implicitly due to the enthalpy dependence of the heat fluxes, we propose a parameterization approach by interpolation (PCHIP approach) to overcome the implicitness of the operator. This way, we decouple the dependencies and obtain an explicitly defined parameter-to-solution (and forward) operator with which the inverse problem can be solved in the classical way by iteratively minimizing an objective functional under box-constraints. In this thesis, we implement a Projected Quasi-Newton (PQN) Method, which, as a gradient scaling method, requires the knowledge of the gradient of the objective functional. After discussing the existence and uniqueness of classical and strong solutions for the underlying model and thus justifying the well-definedness of the parameter-to-solution operator in the corresponding spaces, we derive the mentioned gradient. Finally, we test the PCHIP approach and the PQN method for the inverse heat transfer problem and compare the results to the attenuated Landweber method. |
