Abstract: | A variant of DomarÂ's theorem on the existence of a largest subharmonic minorant of a given function is introduced. This theorem is used to obtain criteria for decomposability properties of operators with "thin" spectra satisfying certain growth conditions for the resolvent. Main aim of the thesis is to provide sufficient conditions under which Banach function algebras of Dales-Davie type admit partitions of unity or are even regular. |
