Unterwanderungen der Postmoderne : Viktor Pelevins literarische Werke als Arbeitsfelder von Ostensivität

Abstract

Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist, eine kulturgeschichtliche Neuentwicklung zu dokumentieren, die vor dem Hintergrund der postmodernen Metaphysikkritik eine innovative ganzheitliche Ontologie in Kraft setzt. Diese Neuentwicklung wird nicht als ein anti-postmodernes Gegenkonzept, sondern als eine folgerichtige Radikalisierung, als eine Unterwanderung der etablierten postmodernen Kulturformation aufgefasst; sie wird zunächst in Anlehnung an maßgebliche Thesen des Medienwissenschaftlers Boris Groys auf theoretischer Ebene erörtert, sodann anhand der Prosa des russischen Schriftstellers Viktor Pelevin empirisch beschrieben. In beiden Fällen mündet die Argumentation in dem semiotischen Begriff der Ostensivität, unter dem eine rudimentäre, prä-repräsentationale Zeichenhaftigkeit verstanden wird, welche sich in einem reinen Verweisen, in einer leeren Verhältnishaftigkeit erschöpft, die jeder Unterscheidung metaphysischer Entitäten (von Signifikat und Signifikant, von Subjekt und Objekt u. a.) vorausgeht, und die trotz ihrer substanziellen Nichtigkeit ein neues ontologisches Fundament verkörpert.

This study aims to outline the basic tenets of a recent cultural-historical transformation that brings forth an innovative, comprehensive form of ontology in comparison with that of the postmodern critique of metaphysics. This transformation does not, however, spring from any counter theses of postmodernism; rather, it represents a coherent radicalisation, a logical undermining of the established postmodern cultural formation. In terms of theory, it is presented here with reference to the works of media scholar Boris Groys; these theoretical reflections provide the ground for an empirical analysis of the prose of Russian writer Viktor Pelevin. Both theoretically and empirically, the argumentation circles around the semiotic concept of ostension. It denotes a rudimentary, pre-representational signification limited to the pure ability to relate, which precedes any differentiation between metaphysical entities (e.g. between signifier and signified, or subject and object); in spite of this substantial voidness it makes a new ontological foundation possible.
