Numerical methods were analysed about their usability for metallic photonic crystals and it was shown, that the standard methods are not capable of dealing with such systems. A numerical fdfd-method for the analysis of metallic photonic crystals was developed and used to calculate transmission spectra of photonic crystals using the full frequency dependent absorption and dispersion. The method calculates the transmission in dependence of the angle and frequency of the incoming light. 2-dimensional metallic systems were tested on their usability in the region of the plasma frequency. There were also impurity systems calculated. It was shown, that the absorption in the region of the plasma frequency was too high for typical applications, but below the plasma frequency, where the real part of the dispersion is negative, metallic photonic systems show behaviour that proofs promissing in comparison to standard materials. |
