Abstract: | Opéra comique has belonged to the standard German stage repertoire since the late 1760 s. As a result of Marchand’s initiative in particular, French libretti were published in German translation, which likewise incorporated musical appendices. Duni was very successful in Germany with seven of his 21 stage works. In their analyses here, strategies for adapting cultural norms in France to those in Germany are revealed, or they reflect upon their presentation as works from another culture in which the original music was maintained. The uniqueness of the music in its expression, its vocal and instrumental virtuosity-even some timbres (parodies on popular melodies) were included in German performances-as well as formal aspects became stimuli for the German Singspiel. |
