Abstract: Micro-UNIXPERT.2 is an interactive, online, knowledge-based system, designed for diagnosis of faults in UNIX^periphery devices. For micro-UNIXPERT.2 the domain of diagnosis was restricted to faults in the printer periphery and the UNIX spooling system. The diagnostic system has the principal advantage of running in the same environment as the object of analysis. This means, the expert system has direct access to some UNIX-specific system parameters such as the printer environment, the history of die operating system, printer queues and some more. These parameters enter the expert system as symptoms, without involving the user. Micro-UNIXPERT.2 was developed on the basis of the earlier micro-UNIXPERT; drawing on the experience in this special domain of diagnosis. A further goal of micro-UNIXPERT.2 was to represent more explicitly the strategy of "how" questions to the UNIX system itself and to the user were asked and to be more flexible in dealing with uncertain or missing knowledge. --------------------- ^UNIX is a registered trade-mark of Bell Laboratories
