Abstract: In this paper we describe the CAKE-System which uses a hypertext abstract machine (HAM) to support the development of expert systems. The CAKE-System is based on the ideas of KADS but tries to overcome some of its shortcomings. It is developed to support a scenario where multiple knowledge engineers cooperate with multiple experts to built a maintainable knowledge base.
