Abstract: Only limited data are available on the extent of the vasa vasorum of the human thoracic aorta, although this could be important with regard to certain pathophysiological states, i.e. aortic aneurysm or atherosclerosis. A preliminary investigation shows that the vascularization of the human thoracic aorta reaches deeper layers than generally believed.
