Abstract: Since microgrid systems are growing in complexity, the development of its control software becomes more and more difficult. This is why the use of high level abstraction modelling becomes a crucial need to cope with this increasing complexity. Defining commonly understandable software models is a challenging task due to many reasons such as the different disciplines involved to fulfil the functionalities, the various protocols to be used, the numerous constraints to meet, etc. In this context, the current paper proposes a holistic meta-model that covers the requirements needed by a controlling software of microgrids. First, an overview of the existing modelling works is provided. Then, a formalization of a microgrid is defined. Afterwards, the proposed meta-model is introduced. Finally, a discussion and evaluation of the proposed meta-model are provided.
