Abstract: | The first person to describe the disease, known as aseptic osteonecrosis of the medial femoral condyle, esti- mated the incidence at around 2 % of the population in his 1968 publication. Recently, various studies have been published that confirmed this information with minimal differences. Additionally, other studies have described osteonecrosis of the medial femoral condyle as a complication following prior arthroscopic medial meniscectomy. In the present study, the regional prevalence of Ahlbäck’s disease in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was retrospectively recorded over a period from 2010 to 2016. During the study, all patients older than 55 years with spontaneous knee pain were retrospectively clinically and radiologically recorded. The study shows that the prevalence of SONK in the early stages is 2,4 % in patients over 55 years and up to 8,2% in patients over 65 years of age. |
