Abstract: In research and industry terms of new technologies such as cyber-physical systems are already established, but require further research efforts to identify their content and classification clearly from interdisciplinary views. Therefore, this thesis aims to characterize cyber-physical systems (CPS) from a production perspective. The identified CPS describing production characteristics will be hierarchically arranged to each other. Furthermore, it is investigated how these properties can be designed for the development of complex system structures like those of CPS using virtual validation processes. For that, first of all the effects of the CPS characteristics on virtual commissioning must be identified and explained. In a second step, it must be examined whether the effects in the development process of virtual commissioning lead to changes in their design procedure. The specified goal of this contribution is to develop a methodology, whereby individual methods describe how respective CPS-describing production characteristics can be taken into account in virtual commissioning.
