"Ich hab' Zeit und Raum verloren" - die Metapher des Astronauten in der deutschen (post-)Popliteratur

Abstract

In der Figur des Astronauten zeigt sich eine symptomatische Metapher für die Identität und Selbstwahrnehmung jugendlicher Protagonisten der neuesten deutschsprachigen Popliteratur der vergangenen Jahre. Die auch in der Popmusik besungene "Loslösung von der Erde" entspricht dabei einer gesellschaftlichen "Schwerelosigkeit", die bildhaft Probleme des Aufwachsens und sich-Anpassens, des Ausbrechens aus sozialen Normen und der Entfremdung vom persönlichen Umfeld zusammenbringt. Dabei ist der Rückgriff auf den Topos des Astronauten keinesfalls zufällig: Selbst eine historisch aufgeladene (Sehnsuchts-)Figur der Kindheit und in popkulturellen Artefakten (Musik, Kinofilm, Videospiel, Fernsehserie, Comic, Literatur und nicht zuletzt Spielzeug) breit verarbeitet, ist der Astronaut im kulturellen Gedächtnis verankert und symbolisiert wie kaum eine andere Figur des späten 20. Jahrhunderts technologischen Fortschritt und postmodernen Entdeckungsdrang. Gleichzeitig sollen diese Analysen neuerer Texte als Ausgangspunkt für eine Aktualisierung des popliterarischen Schreibens in der deutschsprachigen Literatur dienen.

The figure of the astronaut is a paradigmatic metaphor for the identity formation and self-perception of juvenile protagonists in German pop literature in recent years. The "detachment from earth" as featured in pop songs corresponds to an "absence of gravity" in a social meaning, bringing together the character's problems of adolescence, the breaking out of social norms, and the alienation from its familial or social groups. Thereby, the topos of the astronaut traces back to the historically highly symbolic figure of the space traveler as a childhood dream and recurring symbol in popular media and artifacts (music, film, videogame, television series, comic, literature and, of course, toys); being part of an collective cultural memory, the astronaut symbolizes, like no other figure of the late 20th century, both technological progress and postmodern adventuresomeness. Additionally, this approach allows a necessary reevaluation of recent German pop literature which is usually considered to have come to an end at the beginning of the millennium.
