Abstract: A nanocrystallite BaSnO3 powder with a high specific surface area was prepared by using a SnO2.xH2O sol. The precursor gel was synthesized by the reaction of SnCl4 with ammonia in water. It was found that the peptization of the gel was possible if the pH value was adjusted to 8.3 or higher which would result in transparent suspensions. It was observed that peptization helped in reducing the agglomeration and also decreased the particle size of the powder.
