Abstract: Fluorine modified ORMOCER (ORganically MOdified CERamics) coating materials have been synthesized from 3-methacryloxy-propyltrimethoxysilane, zirconium-n-propoxide, methacrylic acid and various amounts of 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane. The 5 µm thick films showed a good adhesion to glass surfaces and good abrasion resistance. Evaluation of contact angle measurements has shown that these transparent materials exhibit a low surface free energy similar to perfluorinated polymers.
