Silica aerogels are amorphous and porous materials prepared by the sol-gel process through hydrolysis and polycondensation of a sol of tetramethoxisilan, water and methanol. The structural properties such as surface area, porosity, bulk and matrix densities as well as the dielectrics behavior (å' and loss) have been systematically investigated as a function of the concentration of alkoxide and the temperature and time of the sintering process.
