Abstract: -
The luminescence was excited by â-radiation from a 90Sr source. Increasing the amt. of bivalent cationic impurity (Ca2+; 30-300 ppm.) considerably increased the intensity, and also reduced the temp. of max. intensity (170 to 156°K.) (Tm). The wavelength of max. emission changed with temp., moving from 4350 A. at 77°K. to 4250 A. at 140° and back to its original value at room temp. Treatment at high temp. (approx. 600-700°K.) increased the intensity, and the presence of Ca2+ and Sr2+ greatly increased the effect; the luminescence disappeared after dissoln. and recrystn. Quenching from 500°C. increased the intensity, showing the influence of Schottky pairs; Tmwas also reduced. The emission bands had profiles corresponding to Gaussian curves.
