Abstract: Poor transverse strength is a possible limitation for the widespread application of coarse-grained oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys at high temperatures. This work presents new tensile and compressive creep results, produced with continuous strain measurement, on MA 6000, which reveal the important micromechanisms responsible for the inferior high temperature performance under transverse loading. A model based on an interface reaction controlled diffusional creep mechanism is presented, which is the basis for a better understanding of the transverse creep behaviour of ODS alloys.
