Abstract: Electropositive elements of main group I-III and low-valent elements of group III and IV bonded to nitrogen, oxygen or the halogenes can be used as components of inorganic molecules These M-X species (M = metal, x= non metal) are peculiar in the sense that they combine an electron deficient and electron rich center in the same molecule. Synthetic as well as structural consequences rely on this special property.
