Paradigmenwechsel und kulturelle Evolution : ein Essay aus der Sicht eines Anthropogeographen

Abstract

Die These von Th. S. Kuhn, nach der Neuorientierungen derWissenschaften ("Paradigmenwechsel") als totale Revolutionen zu interpretieren sind, mag auf der inhaltlichen und strukturellen Ebene zutreffen. Eine Untersuchung der Entwickung des Raumverständnisses in Kunst, Philosophie und Sozialwissenschaften (Anthropogeographie) seit der Romantik läßt dagegen auf der Metaebene ein Fortschreiten vom Einfachen zum Komplexen erkennen: Raum erscheint zunächst als Behälter, dann als Ordnung, dann als Gleichgewichtssystem und schließlich als Nichtgleichgewichtssystem. Dies läßt sich vielleicht als Ausdruck der kulturellen Evolution verstehen.

The thesis put forward by Th. S. Kuhn, whereby reorientiations within the sciences ("paradigm shifts") are to be interpreted as total revolutions, may be applicable on the levels of content and structure. An investigation of the development of spatial understanding in art, philosophy and the social sciences (anthropogeography) since the Romantic era, however, reveals on the meta level a progression from the simple to the complex: space first appears as a Container, then as an order, then as an equilibrium System and fmally as a non equilibrium System. This could perhaps be interpreted as an expression of cultural evolution.
