Content is the phase-behaviour of the n-alcohols propanol, butanol and pentanol confined in different mesoporous systems with porediameters of about 10nm, which is examined mainly by dielectric measurements, but also by neutron-scattering. In the first part of this work, samples are cooled down and heated up with constant rates of cooling/heating. Butanol and pentanol show, depending on pore sizes and cooling rates, a partial or even complete suppression of any crystallisation during cooling. Most of the time the crystallisation is much more distinct during heating. In contrast, propanol does not crystallise at all, neither in the bulk-state nor confined into mesopores, independent from the cooling/heating rates used in this thesis. In the second part, pentanol is set to different temperatures below the freezingtemperature, where the time-dependance of the crystallinity is measured isothermally. Along with that a temperature-dependant crystallisation rate is obtained. As a result, in porous silica as well as in VYCOR, crystallisation caused by homogeneous as well as by heterogeneous nucleation can be observed. Fitting the results within the means of classical nucleation theory leads to values very different from bulk-values, but still plausible having a closer look. |
