In this study the manufacturing process honing is analysed especially for machining small bores (d < 50mm). Based on the description of the process and the technological values, an analytical modelling approach is given for the transmission behaviour of the honing tool. The tool transmits the movements and forces that are generated by the machine to the honing stone at the chip removal area. On closer inspection however, the transmission is not linear. It is shown, that there exist different possibilities to reconstruct the forces at the honing tool. The torque around the honing tool is more appropriate as a measured quantity for the forces at the honing stone than it is the feeding force, because the feeding force can be influenced by frictional forces. While it is state of the art to describe an open-loop control for the honing process by machine parameters like revolution speed, stroke speed and feeding steps, this study proposes several concepts for closed-loop control. Those are based on technological values and have the potential to enable higher machining qualities in a more stable process with less effort for setup by compensating the disturbances like the nonlinearity of the honing tool. |
