New materials with unique properties can be obtained by combining two or more components. For example polymer-based composite materials, in which micro- or nanoparticles have been dispersed in a polymer matrix, combine the good mechanical properties of the polymer and the dielectric or magnetic properties of the particles. The effective properties of such a heterogeneous medium depend not only on the concentration and nature of the components, but also on the unknown microstructure. Therefore, a theoretical prediction of the effective properties is often impossible. Conversely the unknown microstructure prevents the direct inversion of the measured effective properties, in order to get access to the intrinsic properties of the components. The aim of this work is to extract information about the material's components from measured effective spectra of a macroscopically quantity. For that purpose formula have been derived to inverse effective dielectric and magnetic spectra. We obtain exact lower and higher limits for the particles properties. These methods, which are based on exact formalisms, have been numerically tested and have been applied to experimental systems. |
