With coming into the force of the EURO 5 – Legislation on the limitation of pollutant emis-sions since 2009 the requirements of reduction of soot particulates are becoming increasingly larger. In the present work with the view to coat ceramic diesel particulate filters new noble and transition metal free alkali silicate based catalysts have been developed. Therefore in co-operation with the NANO-X GmbH a variety of different materials have been tested and modified. Apart from quantification of the catalytic efficiency, reaction mechanisms have been studied as well as the ageing behaviour of the catalysts. At this especially a sodium for-mate based catalyst has excelled due its ageing resistance. Characterizations of this material and other components have revealed alkali – silicone and alkali – carbon – oxygen com-pounds as key components in the reactions. Initial studies in engine test benches prove the practicability of these catalysts. |
