The aim of this work was the production of a transparent sintering glass by using nanosized borosilicate glass powder. The application of powder technology instead of the conventional melting technology enables a significant lowering of the processing temperature. After the optimization of the three process steps which involved powder synthesis, shaping and sintering, a transparent sample was realized at a temperature of 800 °C. Laser ablation, as a gas evaporation method, offers in comparison to the flame hydrolysis the possibility to produce nanoscaled, spherical, non-porous and chemically pure borosilicate glass particles. Besides the dry shaping of the glass powder, it was necessary to show the possibilities and limitations of the electrophoretic deposition process. Furthermore, basic research was conducted concerning the application possibilities of the nanoscaled borosilicate glass powder. The reduction of the processing temperature for the glass production process is not only interesting in the molding of final dimensions but also in the coating of thermally sensitive substrates. Based on this, the laser sintering of green coatings made of nanoscaled borosilicate glass powder was investigated. Besides the successful realization of gold ruby coloration of the sintered borosilicate glass, investigations were made with respect to the cadmium-free red coloration and the production of low-melting lead-free solder glass, which reveal possible fields of further research. |
