The goal of this thesis is to develop a reconstruction technique being a general procedure. It describes how to proceed for a given component to identify equations and characteristics based on certain patterns extracted from the ultrasound data which allow one to automatically relate a detected defect to a defect-class and to automatically determine its position, size and orientation. The proposed approach uses the Kalman filter to search the ultrasound data for patterns caused by defects. The patterns found are compared to fit-functions. Based on the selected fit-function and on additional characteristics of the pattern extracted, the geometry as well as the position, size, and orientation of the defect can be determined. To be able to identify appropriate fit-functions and pattern characteristics for a given test situation one needs a great number of ultrasound data. To create the ultrasound data basis a hybrid simulation method was developed and used in this thesis that combines the simulation methods “Elastodynamic Finite Integration Technique” (EFIT) and “Generalised Point Source Superposition” (GPSS). |
