Novel thermal testing techniques open up a wide range of opportunities in the industry. In order to carry these opportunities into practice, a systematic approach is developed to qualify non-destructive testing techniques for special operations in the automotive manufacturing process. It is derived from general regulations which must be fulfilled within the framework of quality management. A modular strategy is created to support the user, who is implementing new testing solutions. Thermal testing techniques are featured by a diverse range of modifications leading to a high variety of possible applications. The testing procedure is transferred into a process chain that includes specific modules of the various testing options. These thermography modules are characterised systematically and become the basis for a selection tool to find appropriate test configurations. A practical approach for the use of finite element models for thermographic testing is demonstrated. The virtual thermography experiment allows for an effective adaption of thermal excitation and data evaluation. Simulations provide early findings and contribute to lower cost with both shortening development times and reducing effort. Selected practical applications demonstrate the benefits obtained from the integration of the specific modules. One of the examples leads to a thermal testing procedure that ensures the product quality in the production line in the automotive industry. |
