Abstract: This is a methodological chapter about analyzing collaborative learning processes with quantitative methods. The introduction raises arguments regarding why collaborative learning processes should be analyzed. The main part of the chapter provides a tutorial about analyzing collaborative learning processes by introducing theory and examples of how to put theory into practice. Topics include segmentation of data, coding scheme, coding training and interrater-reliability, and aggregation of coded data. Computational tools to support data coding are described. The outlook section introduces the latest methods for aggregation and statistical analysis of rich collaboration data. The chapter provides a comprehensive introduction for new researchers in the field of Learning Sciences who are aiming to analyze collaborative learning processes by using a quantitative approach. The chapter also is of interest for more advanced readers who are seeking information about alternative or innovative methods to analyze collaborative learning processes.
