The topic "Fundraising on the Internet" is regarded in this thesis under three criteria: 1. fundraising potentials of the Internet, 2. contents on the websites of nonprofit organizations and 3. wishes of the Internet donors. First on a theoretical level the potentials are stated, which the Internet offers for fundraising. Apart from an introduction to the topics information, Internet, nonprofit organizations and fundraising, goals and target groups of an Internet-based fundraising are identified and the possibilities of website promotion are discussed. The potential of the Internet for fundraising purposes is discussed under the aspects of procurement orientation, transaction orientation and interaction orientation. The work covers two investigations. On the basis of a content analysis is examined which contents the 20 largest (related to the year 2003, based on the donation incomes in the previous year) German nonprofit organizations offer on their web sites. Moreover it is shown with a non-representative written survey, which contents and functions Internet donors wish to find on the websites of nonprofit organizations. The results of the survey show e.g., how frequently donors visit the website of their organization, for which reasons donors donate in the Internet, which payment procedures and promotion forms they prefer, which obstacles hinder donors from donating in the Internet, how many donors are ready to accept a donation suggestion by e-mail, how frequently donors would like to receive newsletters and how quickly the donors expect to receive an answer to an e-mail.
